Guyana Mission
The Guyana mission work is spearheaded by David Newberry and the Lubeck Church of Christ in West Virginia. The work started 13 years ago in Kwakwani and was expanded to Hururu Mission. In recent years, the work has included the villages of Bamboo Landing and Calcuni. Kwakwani and Hururu Mission now have church buildings and full-time ministers, while Bamboo Landing and Calcuni have part-time ministers. Throughout the past 13 years, the Lord has blessed this work in many ways. For example, the missionaries have built church buildings, boats for transportation, and each year provide gently used clothing donated by various Churchs of Christ. This clothing is transportated in large barrels and shipped overseas. The clothing is then distributed to church and community members in Guyana.
In terms of specific mission trips, the group typically visits twice per year -- in July, to conduct the gospel meetings, Vacation Bible School, Bible studies, eyeglasses clinic, etc.; and then again in February, as a follow up to the summer work.
